Trainer and mentor Debbie Bellenger shares why corporate wellness is more important now than ever.

With the rising costs of care for employers due to rising obesity rates, increasing mental health issues, and rising incidence of chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension; workplace well-being is no longer a nice to have but a need to have.

This means that employers are looking for wellness vendors who are able to partner with them to provide customized employer wellness solutions.

Why workplace well-being?

1. Working age adults spend more time at work than they do at home

2. Remove the barriers and make wellness happen during the work day

3. Education is the key to prevention and avoiding costly illnesses

4. Prevention is the key to good health

In October 2022, the American Surgeon General, Dr Vivek Murthy released an Advisory Paper to share that the number one health concern in the workplace is Mental Health.  The advisory paper provides a framework to address five pillars needed to create a healthy workplace.

Post pandemic the top four health issues for employers are the following:

1. Mental health disorders and the corollary conditions attached to these

2. Obesity

3. Musculoskeletal issues

4. Diabetes
