One of the biggest things I was looking for was a company that has my best interests at heart and also is going to give me the most bang for my buck and also have great customer service. So I’m asking for a lot right out the gate. I realized there are not a lot of companies out there that offer what TeamUp offer.
I’m Joe Lucky and I work at a gym here in Austin, Texas called Squatch Frontier Fitness. What we are is a community of movers, doers, and shakers and essentially what that means is that we’re not your traditional gym. We are more of a grassroots gym, the gym that you would find in a garage somewhere that has a deep community of people who continuously show up, not only for themselves but for the community.
A lot of the people that are associated with Squatch run their own business, are entrepreneurs, digital, nomads, and also athletes from all walks of life. We provide a service for them and that's like running a gym and we also are open 24 hours for them. We have a sauna and ice and many of our trainers that are associated with us also run their own community. So as you can tell we're a huge proponent and cultivators of the community around.
Yeah, we started using TeamUp when we realized that we were being almost eaten alive by fees and processing fees from another software and even though they had great introductory prices for someone just starting up, we were about nine months, actually I would say about a year in, and we realized that we were losing thousands of dollars.
I started looking for other software and there are a lot of other software that also run gym memberships and the CRM customer relationship management aspect, the check-in aspect. There’s a lot out there in the world. One of the biggest things I was looking for was a company that has my best interests at heart and also is going to give me the most bang for my buck and also have great customer service. So I’m asking for a lot right out the gate. I realized there are not a lot of companies out there that offer what TeamUp offer.
And the biggest thing for us was the processing fees. And also like just that you can pay a monthly fee of I don't know, something below $200 and have unlimited utilization of their software on top of still using Stripe as a payment gate, and those who are familiar with Stripe, you understand that there are processing fees there as well, but if you have a software, if you partner with a software that doesn't have their processing fee on top of that, then you're only paying 2.9% processing fee, plus like a 30 cent, transaction fee.
And if you add all that up Stripe itself, isn't that expensive. But if you have, let's say what we were paying was something absurd. We were originally paying a 3% processing fee on top, and then it went up to 4.7% and we were just being eaten alive. So one of the huge reasons we went for a TeamUp was the processing fee was 0%.
It allowed us to have all the capabilities that we absolutely needed and desired, and their customer service was absolutely superb. Like the onboarding process was easy. I was able to get all my questions answered and they walked me through even how to set it up for a 24-hour gym. Even though their software isn't specifically designed for that, they didn't bat an eye when I asked that question. When I asked that question to other companies it's like they scoffed. They were like, yeah, we're not that. And made me feel like I'm dumb and I'm not dumb I researched your whole company come on now.
So I absolutely love that I found TeamUp. And it was on a whim. It was on like a list. It was hidden. And I'm really surprised that not more gyms know about TeamUp. One of the tools that we utilized most in TeamUp would be the management of the member. Being able to track how long someone has been associated with the gym. Having all the forms in one place, having the portal, easy access, allowing our members to manage their own profiles, cancel whenever they want. So yeah, that's the biggest one that along with the kiosk feature is really cool, super simple, and straightforward.
We manage all of our memberships through TeamUp and without managing our memberships we probably wouldn't be utilizing TeamUp. So that's probably the main future that we utilize the most. Being able to start and also defer a payment, which is really great because then this sends a link automatically to the customer for them to set up their own account and put their own details on their own accord. So that is incredibly helpful.
I would definitely recommend TeamUp for any new gym that is opening up because it just gives you all the features that you need right out the gate. It's way more robust than what you could possibly imagine. And when you start looking at the dashboard, there's a lot to take in, but once you go through each tab, it's incredibly simple and straightforward.
There are really no gimmicks. And that's what I really love about TeamUp.
