Strong Girls Club
The aim of The Strong Girls Club is to empower, educate and support young women to be exactly who and what they want to be. The Club is a safe, inclusive, and supportive space where young women can come together and learn the life-changing benefits of lifting weights and is suitable for all young women aged between 13 and 17 years old.
Because we know that wellness is not just about your physical body we will also be holding space for conversation around the female hormone cycle and how it affects mood, energy, and physical activity as well as having open and honest discussions about body confidence and navigating life as a teenager.
Research has shown that children as young as three years old are displaying negative feelings toward their bodies and that children as young as 6 have shown an interest in dieting to lose weight, this is abhorrent and something we are super passionate about dismantling. We want to show young women that exercise can be fun, smashing the Diet Culture narrative that it’s only there to atone for what we eat or as a means to lose weight. Our vision with Strong Girls Club is to empower a generation of young girls to know that they are worth exactly as they are and to find body confidence and happiness regardless of their weight, shape, or body size.
At SLAM we recognize that not all humans assigned female at birth will identify as girls, our club is inclusive of non-binary, gender non-conforming, and transgender humans aged 13-17. We are an LGBTQ+-friendly space.
