Top Step Development is proud to promote cycling at a young age by developing a program that empowers kids ages 6 and up to learn the basic skills needed to ride mountain bike trails, with an introduction to racing on our team and advanced skills when they're ready.
Practice schedule:
Block 1: October 2nd through December 11.
Block 2 January 8th through March 19th
Block 3 April 2nd through June 4th
Must-have Equipment: Mountain bike with gears and hand brakes. Tires need to be knobby for dirt trail traction. Proper-fitting helmet. Helmets must stay snug during riding. Recommend gloves. Hands tend to get sweaty, and full-finger gloves protect against slipping on the grips and potential falls that could scrape hands and fingers. Glasses for eye protection. The trail is full of bugs, dust, and low-hanging branches that may hit the face during riding, so eye protection is recommended. Along with knee and elbow pads. Bring a cycling water bottle that fits in a water bottle cage, or a hydration backpack. For our newer rider's MT bike Fundamentals will be taught and tested: Ready/neutral position for descending hills Side/Side bike body separation Pedaling/shifting efficiently Controlling speed and braking safely Cornering confidently Handling obstacles and rocky terrain Riding with vision Ratcheting and momentum
