Hockey Prep Academy (Ages 5-10) | 5 WEEKS | SUMMER 2026

The Hockey Prep Academy is for ages 5-10: Designed to build solid skating fundamentals and introduce basic hockey techniques. This program includes off-ice training to teach the importance of stretching, flexibility, spatial awareness, and confidence in sport. The Hockey Prep Academy follows an official Learn to Skate hockey curriculum to ensure high quality, progression and consistency. This program emphasizes agility, proper stance, stride, edge use, and basic game scenarios, preparing skaters for future competitive play. Suitable for non-competitive hockey enthusiasts eager to improve or learn hockey, participants should be able to skate forward across the ice without falling down and be able to fall down and stand up independently. 

Lessons will be taught using a rotating station format by professional hockey coaches. Each lesson will end with a small area hockey game, which will teach skaters the rules of hockey, how to play and interact within a team, and prepare skaters for future advanced hockey games.

OFF ICE WARM UP TRAINING BEFORE TAKING THE ICE:

*** All Preparatory Hockey Academy participants will take part in off-ice warm up before putting on hockey equipment and skates and heading onto the ice. The off-ice warm up will follow the official Learn to Skate off-ice curriculum which includes learning how to do proper cardio warm up.

MANDATORY EQUIPTMENT POLICY:

Skaters must have a HECC-approved hockey helmet with a face cage, hockey skates, gloves, shin pads, elbow pads, shoulder pads, hockey pants, gloves, jock/Jill strap, hockey socks, jersey, mouthguard and a hockey stick. We recommend a beginner hockey kit which can be found at sporting stores such as Bensen and Ferguson or online on Amazon.

SKATE & EQUIPRTMENT RENTALS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.

LEARN TO SKATE MEMBERSHIP:

Skaters must have an active Learn to Skate USA membership account before the first day of class. Register at https://www.learntoskateusa.com/registration . If you are unsure of how to register please contact us at info@fairfieldskatingclub.com. 

***MEMBERSHIPS ARE VALID FROM JULY 1ST - JUNE 30TH. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO PURCHASE YOUR MEMBERSHIP AFTER JUNE 30th. PUT 000 IN THE REGISTRATION IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A CURRENT MEMBERSHIP, AND EMAIL US YOUR NEW MEMBERSHIP AFTER JUNE 30th.

WARM UP & SKATING SCHEDULE

WEEK 1: Tuesday, July 28th, 2026 - 5:00 - 5:15 Off-ice warm up | 5:30 - 6:30 Ice Time 

WEEK 2: Tuesday, August 4th, 2026 - 5:00 - 5:15 Off-ice warm up | 5:30 - 6:30 Ice Time

WEEK 3: Tuesday, August 11th, 2026 - 5:00 - 5:15 Off-ice warm up | 5:30 - 6:30 Ice Time

WEEK 4: Tuesday, August 18th, 2026 - 5:00 - 5:15 Off-ice warm up | 5:30 - 6:30 Ice Time

WEEK 5: Tuesday, August 25th, 2026 - 5:00 - 5:15 Off-ice warm up | 5:30 - 6:30 Ice Time 

ON ICE BREAKDOWN: 

Hockey Prep Academy skaters will be skating on half of the sheet of ice. They will have a 5 minute free skate warm up on half of the ice, followed by 45 minute lesson time, and 10 minute free skate time within their area at the end. 

REFUND POLICY: Please note there are NO refunds or make up classes. 

ALL PARENTS / GUARDIANS MUST REMAIN IN THE FACILITY DURING WARM UP & LESSONS.
