Figure Skating Prep Academy (Ages 7-14) | SUMMER 2026

The Figure Skating Prep Academy is for ages 7-14 (Basic Levels 2-6). The academy is designed to build solid pre-figure skating fundamentals while inspiring future figure skaters to complete their Learn to Skate USA badges. This program includes off-ice warm up training to teach the importance of stretching, flexibility, spatial awareness, cardio and confidence, which are vital for pursing figure skating. While following the Basic Learn to Skate USA curriculum, skaters will be encouraged and taught by figure skating coaches about the importance of grace, expression, posture and alignment, weight transfer, musicality, and more. The Preparatory Figure Skating Academy is meant to encourage and excite skaters about figure skating while giving them a strong mastery of pre-figure skating fundamentals.

The Figure Skating Prep Academy is suitable for skaters that are Basic Level 2-6.

Lessons will be taught in a group format and may be broken into smaller groups using stations dependent upon the skaters skill level. Time will be spent giving skaters the opportunity to practice what skating skills they are working on & passionate about with feedback from the coach, and free time to work on interpretive skating within their designated ice area to music selected as a group or by the coach. 

OFF ICE WARM UP TRAINING BEFORE TAKING THE ICE:

*** All Preparatory Figure Skating Academy participants will take part in off-ice warm up before putting on figure skates and heading onto the ice. Skaters should be in figure skating attire (as stated below). The off-ice warm up will follow the official Learn to Skate off-ice curriculum which includes learning how to do proper cardio and stretching warm up.

MANDATORY OUTFIT, HELMET & SKATE REQUIREMENTS: 

All Preparatory Figure Skating Academy students must wear a helmet. A hockey helmet is strongly suggested, although a bicycle or snowboarding helmet are allowed. Students must wear figure skating attire such as black leggings and a sport jacket / sweater or figure skating dress with tights and a sports jacket if desired. All students must wear proper fitting figure skates. We recommend skaters are fitted for proper figure skates from either Skaters Landing in Greenwich or from Jenskates LLC. in Cheshire. Note: Both locations usually require a fitting appointment.

SKATE RENTALS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.

LEARN TO SKATE MEMBERSHIP:

Skaters must both have an active Learn to Skate USA membership account before the first day of class. Memberships can be purchased at https://www.learntoskateusa.com/registration . If you are unsure of how to register please contact us at info@fairfieldskatingclub.com. 

***MEMBERSHIPS ARE VALID FROM JULY 1ST - JUNE 30TH. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO PURCHASE YOUR MEMBERSHIP AFTER JUNE 30th. PUT 000 IN THE REGISTRATION IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A CURRENT MEMBERSHIP, AND EMAIL US YOUR NEW MEMBERSHIP AFTER JUNE 30th! 

OFF ICE TRAINING WARM UP & SKATING SCHEDULE

WEEK 1: Tuesday, July 28th, 2026 - 5:00 - 5:15 Off-ice warm up | 5:30 - 6:30 Ice Time 

WEEK 2: Tuesday, August 4th, 2026 - 5:00 - 5:15 Off-ice warm up | 5:30 - 6:30 Ice Time

WEEK 3: Tuesday, August 11th, 2026 - 5:00 - 5:15 Off-ice warm up | 5:30 - 6:30 Ice Time

WEEK 4: Tuesday, August 18th, 2026 - 5:00 - 5:15 Off-ice warm up | 5:30 - 6:30 Ice Time

WEEK 5: Tuesday, August 25th, 2026 - 5:00 - 5:15 Off-ice warm up | 5:30 - 6:30 Ice Time 

ON ICE BREAKDOWN: 

Skaters will have a 5 minute free skate warm up on half of the ice, followed by 45 minute lesson time within their designed area, and 10 minute free skate time within their area at the end.
