Yoga Philosophy Through the Lens of Kālī with Sam Horsely

The yoga that we practise on our mats, our āsana practice, is but the surface of a vast ocean. Underlying the physical practice, and connected to it historically, is a wealth of philosophical discussion, spiritual mysteries, and ideas from Hinduism and Buddhism, among others. In this series of workshops we will take the plunge, diving off our mats and into the philosophical waters that lie beneath. Guided by the symbolism of Kālī, and by her mythology, we will learn and discuss foundational yogic theories, encountered through a variety of Sanskrit texts. Our discussions will be introduced accessibly and made relevant to our lives and our practice, and the theory will be grounded and embodied in the practices of prāṇāyāma, meditation and chanting. If you have ever wondered what lies beyond the rectangle of your yoga mat, then this is the course for you.
