Pre-pointe Assessments

Dance injuries associated with pointe work are highly prevalent within the dance community.  Pre-pointe assessments are used to determine whether a ballet dancer is safe to progress to dancing en pointe. This transition will usually occur around 12 years of age or when the dance teachers and studio are thinking a dancer is ready to move into pointe work.  A pre-pointe assessment looks at a dancer's strength, mobility, balance, coordination and mechanics.  Pre-pointe assessments are recommended to help a dancer avoid unnecessary pain and injury and to promote healthy, successful dancing as they move into new phases of ballet training with pointe work.

Learning to sing, developing one’s vocal technique, and most importantly sharing one’s vocal journey with others requires a great deal of vulnerability and trust.  While my philosophy “tell no lies and do no harm” may seem simplistic, I am determined to serve each voice I work with through a reciprocal relationship of honesty and trust, rooted in concepts of evidence-based pedagogy and a passion for teaching, fueled by the ultimate desire to tell a story.

Bio:

Dr. Stephanie Higgins Marshall is a dynamic vocal technician, whose teaching is rooted in evidence-based pedagogy. Utilizing technical tools supported by voice research, the capacity to communicate as an artist becomes unstoppable. Evidence-based teaching builds technical facility, which in turn generates artistic freedom.

Members of her studio can be heard on Broadway (Cats, Dear Evan Hansen, Jagged Little Pill, Kimberly Akimbo) television, and in recording studios across North-America.

Dr. Higgins Marshall currently serves as Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Contemporary Commercial Music at Shenandoah Conservatory.
