Teen Circus - 11 - 16 Years* - All Ability
*These ages are given as a guide. Children from the age of 10 are welcome to join our teen circus class if they are wanting a greater challenge or don't enjoy the games. At 16, students are welcome to continue in their teen class or to move into an adult class depending on preference.
These sessions are open to all abilities. Each session is taught by a team of two instructors and the group will be split into levels based on their previous assessments and experience. Complete beginners or those with a little experience will work on our beginner badges and assessments. Once we have completed our beginner syllabus, your child will begin on the harder intermediate movements. You will not need to swap class times for this, they will simply be taught by the other instructor.
Whilst we don’t allow parents to watch inside the studio, they're welcome to wait in our reception area and peek through the glass door. You'll also be able to check out the children's progress on our social media private group ‘URBAN CIRCUS KIDS EDITION’ which you can request to join after enrolment. During the last class of each full term, parents are also invited to come and watch a short demo on each piece of kit to see what the class have been working on.
The class is ran similarly to our adult sessions in terms of physical challenge, with the key difference of covering all three disciplines; pole, aerial hoop and aerial hammock. Children moving into teens from our big tops session may have limited knowledge of the pole, but this will be built on in our teen sessions. The class involves a warm up with both conditioning and flexibility elements, and progresses onto either the aerial hoop, aerial hammock or pole. Each session covers 2 disciplines to ensure ample time for each skill to be taught. Whilst we spend time learning on the pole, we will not be including it within our assessments due to its challenging nature. Our assessments are completed gradually over the course of the term so theres no pressure, and if you miss a week of class, you can catch up the following week. Certificates and badges are awarded at the end of full terms.
The members of this class will be treated like the young adults they are and so we require a greater level of discipline to put the work in to see progressions. Whilst we would never ask anyone to do anything they really don't want to, we would encourage younger members who want more play to try out our BigTops class instead. We have of course met teenagers, so we're not expecting 100% enthusiasm all the time, but prewarn them that phones are banned and they can expect to ache a bit the next day.
Our classes are taught by a team of brilliant fully insured, qualified instructors with varying experience from 10+ years teaching children's fitness, gymnastics coaching, competitive athletes themselves and couch potatoes too. Our head instructor is also an active internation instructor trainer specialising in childrens pole & aerial.
For these sessions, we require students to bring both tight fitting shorts and leggings. This is because some pole skills require skin grip, where hammock and hoop movements are best performed fully clothed. It's hard work so don't forget a drink too! All of these items can also be purchased from the studio if needed (as well as a lovely little branded bag to keep it all in *winkwink* )
Classes are booked in half termly blocks (6-8 weeks approx) at a rate of £10 a session. Session last 1 hour and run term time only. We have holiday clubs during the breaks. Trial sessions can be booked at any point in the term, after which you can enrol into the remainder of the term without being charged for any missed sessions. Please email info@urban-circus.co.uk to arrange this.
