SlapStick Clowning Workshop w/Dan Griffiths

This workshop provides constructive instruction on how to execute the fundamentals of falling, tripping, slipping, running into walls and basic slapstick for clowning. In this class you will explore comedic structures, obstacle constraint, and bit constructions appropriate for performance integration. This workshop is intended for performers and non performers of all varieties who wish to discover how to fall intentionally. Discover your own unique clumsiness and ability to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. Learn to follow your impulses and take risks! Through clear instruction and feedback, games, and entrances, you will develop a greater awareness of yourself in relation to your partners and your audience in a safe and fun environment. Come ready to move! Available to ages 14 through to adult.

Dan is an award winning theatre maker, director, teacher, and the founder of The Clown Workshop, ClownZero, and KAPOOT Clown Theatre. He has created and performed original theatrical works in over 45 states and 25 countries since 1988 as well as performed with the Clown troupe Die Hanswurste, with Chicago’s 500 Clown, and internationally for The Department of Defense Overseas Shows. To name a few, Dan has taught Clown and Physical Theatre at Dell’Arte International, Clown Conservatory San Francisco, The School for Mime Theater, & Columbia College Chicago.
