This course is designed for dedicated students, looking to go above and beyond recreational classes to develop as a well rounded circus artist. As such, our 12 – 17 yr. youth intensive course is by invite only. If you have NOT been invited, but are interested in participating, please contact Jean-Luc Martin at (858) 635-9522 or info@SanDiegoCircusCenter.org for more information.
Course Description:
This Thirteen week intensive course will focus on building the fundamental skills essential for the practice of all circus disciplines. Students will work on creating a foundation of strength, flexibility, body awareness and coordination. Students will get a chance to explore various ground and aerial disciplines including but not limited to trapeze, tumbling, Chinese pole, lyra, silk, partner aerial, tight/slack-wire, rolla bolla, rolling globe, juggling, teeterboard, diabolo, hammock, handstands, hand to hand and Russian bar.
Technique and skill will taught in a progression of complexity and intensity scaled to meet individual students’ needs. In addition to technical ability, this course will also encourage creativity and innovation outside the realm of traditional circus as students develop their own creative movement, choreography, and character work.
As students develop and progress our teachers will work with them individually to identify their strengths and passions, and use these insights to help them choose a discipline to specialize in.
The course will end with a showcase presentation which will include a performance by each student on their chosen apparatus (or discipline) as well as group number.
