Youth Circus classes include a broad range of aerial, acrobatic and other circus arts such as trapeze, silks, hoop, rope, acrobatics, tumbling, acrobalance, trampoline and object manipulation.
Please note that flying trapeze is not included in regular Youth Circus classes. Children ages 7+ can join any of our flying trapeze classes separately by buying an aerial class pack or booking on a drop-in rate, and there is a dedicated flying trapeze class for under-18s on Mondays.
There is scope for students to spend more time on their favourite arts and when they are age 13-16 they can check with instructors if they want to attend adult classes in the evening schedule, which would give them 90 minutes in a particular art.
Classes are inherently playful, collaborative and inclusive and everyone goes at their own pace without pressure or competition with others.

You’ll collaborate with mentors and other students to come up with your own characters for solo or duo acts within the show’s theme, in ways that allow your individual traits to shine through. Therefore you don’t need to come with any pre-made routines, you just need an excitement to perform, play and find new ways of working with their circus equipment. And because they are ensemble shows, you’ll also develop choreographed group pieces as transitions between acts. You’ll be guided and supported as a group by the directors to create acts that come from within yourself and that you are proud to share in the final show.
The prospect of the show provides a focus for you to improve in technique, as you make your acts more complex and challenging. As you collaborate on the process of creating characters and developing the narrative of the show, you will progress artistically, expressively and performatively.
It’s for you if you’re aged 10-18 and enjoy aerial, acrobatics, dance, gymnastics, physical theatre or other physical arts, and can train for 90 minutes on Wednesdays. It’s ideal if you want to take your circus skills into a more professional setting, if you’re considering a career in circus, or you just want the experience of performing in a directed show. We’d also welcome additional input from young people who have an interest in rigging, staging, lighting, audio, costume making and other skills associated with show production.
The course runs on Wednesdays from 5.30pm until 7pm, with a show in June and December.
A special class for the youngest circus artists, aged from 1-6, and their parents/carers! This is a very playful approach to circus, with lots of lots of games to introduce little ones to the aerial apparatus at low height, along with repeated movements which build towards acrobatics, and other circus activities.
You will enjoy things like partner acrobatics, trampoline, juggling, aerial hoop, hammock and trapeze, all of which help to build the 3-Cs – coordination, confidence and collaboration.

Each day there are four 90-minute time slots. In each team slot, there are four arts to choose from. When you've chosen your arts for each slot, that's your schedule for the four days, you'll follow those paths all weekend. You'll train the same art at the same time each day, and by the end of the four days you'll have made noticeable progress!
A wide range of circus arts will be taught by a combination of Aerial Edge and guest instructors.
