ESIMPRO Workshop - Improvised Song Lab (EN) (*)

Already started your music improv journey and ready to take the next step? Want to improve your songs with more complex melody, imagery and structural elements like pre-choruses? Then the Improvised Song Lab is for you! In this series of drop-in workshops with accompaniment on piano, we go deeper into the components of improvised music making with a particular focus on lyrics, melody, song structure and collaboration. In addition to working on songs in isolation, we will also look at different approaches to combining songs and narratives, from the traditional book musical to song cycles to music videos.

Prerequisite: a beginner's music improv class, intensive workshop or equivalent: you should have some experience with improv comedy/theater, singing spontaneously and a basic understanding of verse-chorus structure.

Language of instruction: English. You are welcome to sing in any language.

SUMMER BANKS 
is a California desert-born theater-maker and improviser. After starting her improv career with ComedySportz Berlin (with tours to the CSz groups in San Jose, Portland and Manchester), she took a summer intensive at Second City in Chicago and began working with MAD Improv in Madrid. She was one of the founding members of Rollercoasters improvised musicals and has her own music improv show called the Electric Cabaret. Invited to participate in the musical at the BIG IF in 2016 in Barcelona, she has also taught music improv workshops and classes in Athens (ImproVibe) and Brussels (ImproBubble). Today she performs with Some Nerve and teaches for Instant Improv Berlin.
