Aerial Choreography (& Chair) Workshop: Life of a Showgirl

Circus Factory Cork is delighted to host an Aerial Choreography (& Chair) Workshop: Life of a Showgirl with Brenda Long.

Workshop Details

Let's be clear: Taylor Swift is taking inspiration from us. ;-) Embrace your inner Showgirl with a sassy and sultry choreography workshop. The workshop is divided into 2 halves. We will start by learning a simple chair choreography. With this choreography, students will be encouraged to explore and express their own movement style.

In the second half of the workshop, we will take the movement patterns of the chair dance and use that as a basis for creating a unique choreography on the aerial apparatus. Participants will be guided in exploring and generating ideas, which they will use to develop an aerial dance sequence, unique to them. This is open to all aerial disciplines.

About Brenda Long

I started Circus 10 years ago. I had moved back home after living abroad and was looking for a way to settle back into life in Cork. Circus provided an outlet for creativity, movement, physical challenge and, most importantly, connection and community. Circus, specifically Aerial Silks, has been my entire personality ever since.

I am a mono-talent at silks. In my opinion, it is the prettiest; but I also lack the pain tolerance for the other aerial apparatuses. I have recently begun to dabble in Hula-Hoop- which is also surprisingly quite painful!

At Circus Factory, I teach aerial silks for beginners and up to our intermediate level. I began coaching in 2019 and completed the Paper Doll Militia Level 1 Silks Teacher Training in 2020. My focus is on clean technique, building strength and pacing students safely- all while having a fun, supportive atmosphere in my classes. I love encouraging students to be playful and creative.

I’m passionate about creating events for the community to get together and giving people an opportunity to push themselves artistically. I have produced shows for Halloween, Student Showcases, World Circus Day and the Gala Show for Pitched Festival. I want to continue to grow as an aerialist and explore more ways to develop choreography and creativity into my practice.
