Aerial Hoop for Improvers/ Intermediates 12 Week Course

This is a 12 week course in Aerial Hoop for Improvers/ Intermediates
September 16th - December 9th
1 week break for October mid-term Oct 28th - Nov 3rd)

Note this is an advanced class - beginners should not register.
 

The aim of this course is to progress students in the art of aerial hoop or Lyra as it is also known. Students will work on continuing developing the fundamental basics in technique and skill as they as they develop the necessary strength and knowledge for longer choreography sequences and transitions. 

All students will be able to explore their training at their own level with modifications offered for different abilities. The term will also focus on conditioning and strength building exercises on the floor and on the equipment to mobilise the body and prepare it for aerial training. 

 

What to expect in your Aerial Hoop Class:

- Warm-up and Conditioning: warm-up routines to prepare the body for aerial exercises. Focus on increasing flexibility and overall body strength.
- Strength Building: Exercises to build core, upper body, and grip strength.
- Basic Routines and Intermediate Moves: Short sequences combining basic moves to build confidence and fluidity and introduction to more complex poses such as straddles, knee hangs, and drops.
- Safety and Spotting: Emphasis on safe practice and learning how to spot partners.
- Transitions: Fluid movement between poses, focusing on control and grace.
- Sequences: Longer and more intricate routines, incorporating a variety of basic and intermediate moves.
- Musicality and Performance: Techniques for performing to music, including timing and expression.
- Safety Techniques: Advanced spotting and self-safety methods, with a focus on preventing injuries during more complex moves.
- Cool down: relax and stretching before leaving the class.
Outcome: Students will enhance their aerial repertoire, develop smoother transitions, and build the strength and endurance required for longer performances and creating and performing routines with confidence and artistry.

 

Are there any pre-requirements to attend?

Improver/Intermediate level students having done aerial hoop or another apparatus for at least a year. Having confidence with their hand grip, inversions and body awareness.

Being confident with inversions, firm hand grip, double and single knee hook.

 

What Should You Bring?

- Long tight clothing, multiple layers to protect your back and your knees or feet.
- Avoid zippers and jewellery and very long nails.
