ONL: Mastering the Monologue with Natalie Saleeba
PLEASE NOTE THIS COURSE IS NOW ONLINE!
Are you afraid of monologues? They are one of the most difficult challenges an actor is faced with: A block of text with nothing except you and your imagination to feed off. No other actor to bounce off, no other lines to listen to. You are tasked with creating every component of the monologue, and if you don’t have the proper preparation, it can just sound like a giant chunk of text.
Why is the mastering the ON-Screen monologue important?
Monologues are not just for theatre. This is a common fallacy. Particularly in a COVID world, there are many situations where you’re faced with a monologue.
Some Casting Directors and projects only use monologues for their self-tape auditions.
Want to audition for an interstate mainstage theatre production? They will require a self-taped monologue.
Some characters have monologues written into their scenes - don’t show up to set without the skills to take on that challenge.
These are all examples of real situations where monologue skills are needed.
COURSE OUTLINE
This two part masterclass will teach you a foolproof process of learning, rehearsing and performing your monologue, as well as a process in which you can access your full physicality on screen - all taught online!
Natalie Saleeba has an impressive list of credits including series regular roles on House Husbands, Neighbours, Winners and Losers, All Saints, and MORE!
Natalie is rarely out of work, and in this masterclass will give an inside look at the preparation and process she herself takes into monologues, taking the fear & guesswork out of preparing monologues by learning a simple technique to break them down, offering you both ease of learning & confidence in your performance.
In the second session, Natalie will get you on your feet (only a little bit of space is required), engaging with your body, and combining your physicality and the text of the monologue so that it is an actual living moment - not just words on a page.
Get ready to work hard and learn valuable and useful techniques that are applicable at all stages in your process - from auditioning to being on-set!
A qualified yoga instructor since 2009, Natalie uses breathwork to help connect the actor with their feelings and the other actors in the scene. She will also help you free up your body so you’re not just a talking head, but a living, breathing character!
