Pilates for 65+/osteoporosis safe class (starting 21st February)

Osteoporosis affects one in every two women and one in five men; it is most common in post-menopausal women. Pilates is a safe exercise programme for those affected by or wanting to prevent osteoporosis. Pilates promotes good posture and core stability which can help off-load unnecessary tension on bones. As Pilates strengthen your muscles, it can also help to improve bone density as the muscle then pull on bones, which can in turn stimulate bone growth. Weight bearing exercises using resistance and your own body weight can also help improve bone density. Lastly, balance and coordination exercises are included to prevent fall.
