Wishcraft Workshop

How does a garment go from idea to your closet? Campers learn about the entire fashion life-cycle, starting with various illustration techniques to capture and communicate their vision, while learning how to write a spec sheet and make a pattern from that spec. Campers design, construct, draft a flat-pattern and machine-sew a garment/item from scratch using their own measurements and all the tools of the trade No sewing experience is required and those with experience take on additional challenges. All Spoolhouse Rock (aka Project Wishcraft) camps include a photo-shoot on the final day of camp, an expert guest speaker (TBA) and walking field trip (TBA)..

Our campers learn about their world, their selves and their own creative voice. We use an integrated approach to keep academic subjects like math, history, literacy and science fresh and fun (and sometimes disguised!) alongside hands-on, open-ended creative experiences that kids love (and our campers qualify to earn Chicago City of Learning digital badges!) Camps for Grades 3-6 include a machine-sewing project(s) of their own design be it a hoodie, a guitar strap, a messenger bag or a complete outfit They decide. We call it Spoolhouse Rockā„¢: confidence-building bootcamp for blossoming artists and thinkers of all genders. Campers can design for themselves or a friend: add measurements and math to design and we can make almost anything. No previous sewing experience is required and those with experience take on new challenges.
