Lucy Bannister, Kelly Weibe

Join us for a day-long yoga retreat in the moorlands of Yorkshire. This winter session of the Yorkshire Day Retreats will celebrate the first festival of spring, Imbolc.

We’ll honour the power that nature has to regenerate and how the first buds are rising, despite it being the coldest time of the year. This will be a day to acknowledge new beginnings and growth, setting our intentions for the rest of the year. This retreat day will equip you with soulful and empowering yoga to enrich your body and mind.

This day retreat will also include guest teacher Kelly Wiebe sharing her nurturing and incredibly relaxing Yin yoga and Yoga Nidra practice alongside Lucy’s intention-setting Dru Yoga session.

As well as the cosy, wood-burner heated indoor yoga practice there will be time spent outdoors. Using the wild moorland scenery we will create a mindful connection with nature and have an outdoor fire to help fuel creativity and the ‘clearing-out’ process needed at the start of a new year.

This day retreat costs £70.

What is Dru Yoga?

Dru Yoga is a beautiful, slow and flowing form of yoga that will help you to relax, unwind and stretch out your body. It can help revive tired muscles, reduce back pain and combat stress. Dru Yoga gives the mind and body much needed rest and relaxation, to help you find a still point in your busy world.

It can be practised in a variety of different ways to accommodate your needs and the benefits you wish to gain from it.

What is Yin yoga

Yin yoga allows the body to release tension and feel more energised. Yin poses are floor-based, they are held for between 3 and 10 minutes and the idea is to gently release the connective tissue, also known as fascia, in the body.

Yin is very beneficial for tight muscles as the poses allow the body to relax. It can also help bring balance to internal organs and is therefore lovely if you are feeling out-of-sorts in your digestion, or hormones.

It allows the energy, also known as prana, to flow more freely in the body, which can lead to feeling rejuvenated and revitalised after the practice.

What is Yoga nidra?

Yoga nidra directly translates as yogic sleep! The main thing you need to know is that it is incredibly easy to practice, super relaxing and that it is really good for you.

In a yoga nidra you rest in savasana, supported by any props you need to be comfortable. The practitioner takes you through a systematic meditation designed to deeply relax and renew. Anyone can practice yoga nidra and there is evidence that it reduces the impact of stress and trauma.

What to expect

These day retreats will bring together physical movements and asana (yoga postures) with more subtle yoga techniques, relaxation, meditation and intention setting rituals.

Physical movements and yoga help us to become aware of ourselves, to let go of stress and anxiety, to become more mindful. And to allow the body to relax more deeply.

Intertwined with the asana we will try out mudras and pranayama which can help bring moments of peace and calm when you need them most – in the middle of your day and in challenging situations.

This winter retreat day will acknowledge the cycles of the year in nature, focusing on the first festival of spring, Imbolc. It will feature a simple and accessible way to honour this time, using fire and intention setting ritual.

These retreat days will always include an extended relaxation session, to deeply soothe body and soul.
