Waterford kids mindfulness and aerial yoga

Mindfulness for kids sharpens focus and strengthens attention, similar to how physical exercise builds muscles. Aerial Yoga encourages self-esteem and body positivity, creating a positive self-image.

Classes will be structured in the following way

Focus on breathing

“By focusing on the breath you become aware of the mind’s tendency to jump from one thing to another. The simple discipline of concentration brings us back to the present moment and all the richness of experience that it contains. It is a way to develop mindfulness, the faculty of alert and sensitive awareness.”

2. Specific poses & activities to promote mindfulness

Our classes include activities and poses with the aerial hammocks which are designed to promote and encourage a mindful state of awareness.

3. Balance

Aerial Yoga develops and nurtures balance. Both physical balance through practice and emotional balance in our lives.

Balance poses in our classes require focus and concentration while being supported by the silk hammock. For most children, simply standing on one leg in tree pose will require their full attention. In doing this, they will necessarily be fully present not only in the moment, but in their own body. What could be more mindful than that?

4. Acceptance of self & others

Our classes offer a safe space for all. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ and everyone’s unique talents are celebrated.

5. Self awareness

In our children’s aerial Yoga classes, we discuss our feelings without judgement. Sometimes we feel shy, sad or angry and these are just as valid as happiness, excitement and confidence.

By being aware of our emotions and feelings (and those of others), we are better able to manage those strong emotions.

6. Meditation & relaxation practice

“Both meditation and mindfulness happen in the NOW.  They happen in the present moment.  When we are tense, our minds are tense as well… Therefore, we must relax our bodies and minds in order to get the best results from meditation and mindfulness. What better way then do end a class in a full aerial cocoon.
